Duties

Help
  • Perform the repair, rebuild, overhaul and testing of a variety of combat/tactical vehicles and/or combat vehicle components
  • Assign tasks to be performed and ensures there is adequate work to keep workers busy
  • Utilize a variety of diagnostic and test equipment to determine causes of vehicle malfunction.
  • Determine why engines, transmissions, generators, starters, injector pumps, hydraulic and electrical systems fail to operate or fail to perform in accordance with specifications and requirements.
  • Diagnose defects and determines trade techniques to be used in accomplishing the repair and/or rebuild of a major system of combat vehicles.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

  • Position may be filled by Temporary Promotion/Reassignment not to exceed 1 year.
  • Temporary Promotion/Reassignment may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Temporary Promotion/Reassignment may be made Permanent without further competition

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. One year of specialized experience which includes Repair, rebuild, overhaul, and modify combat and tactical vehicles according to proper procedures and specifications; serve as a working leader of three or more employees; passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor; answer workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, and written instructions; performs testing and makes adjustment to correct
deficiencies. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Efforts: Work involves standing, bending, reaching, stretching, crouching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop building that is moderately heated, lighted and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment. Is exposed to hazards of moving equipment such as fork lifts, sweepers, etc. Wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.

  • Two year probationary period may be required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • This is a Career Program (CP) 17 - Material Maintenance Management position.
  • You may claim military spouse preference (MSP).
  • If a MSP applicant is determined best qualified and selected, placement must be at the full performance level for priority consideration.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
