Summary

This position is located within the J4 at MATES, in Gatesville, TX. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Full Assistant to a supervisor who has responsibility for providing overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions. Participates with higher-level management officials in planning and establishing long-range work requirements and schedules. Serves as the highest-level subject matter expert for work accomplished in the organization.

SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (Title 32)

  • Planning: Provides direct input or participates in meetings and/or conferences with engineering, production control, and other personnel involving the initial analysis of long-range work requirements.
  • Work Direction: Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed.
  • Administration: Develops and establishes internal procedures (e.g., meetings, content, and timing of reports) to be followed by subordinate supervisors to assure effective control and direction of work activities, organizations, and personnel supervised.
  • Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) and wear of the military uniform. Applicants must be a current member of the National Guard or be on Active Duty and be eligible and willing for immediate transfer to the TXARNG. Compatible Military Assignment (per UMR): Applicant must be Duty MOS assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations upon selection. If selected and not currently Duty MOS assigned, entrance on duty date will be delayed until assignment in the appropriate Duty MOS is verified.

Qualifications

To qualify at the WS-14 grade level your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

Specialized Experience Required
Must have at least 36 months experience or training in the following:

Experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.
In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
