Summary

About the Position: This position is located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Sedation Unit in Bethesda, MD. Work in this position will be performed in a ward-type setting with occasional walking to various locations throughout the Pediatric Sedation Unit and the medical facility. This position is Monday through Friday (with exception of Federal holidays); duty day is 8 hours per workday.

Help
  • Ability to interact in a professional, clear and concise manner when interacting with customers in person or telephonically.
  • Serve as Scheduling Coordinator, Receptionist, Template Manager, Appointments Coordinator, and Managed Medical Care Consultant.
  • Proficiency with on-line/network electronic information and scheduling tools (e.g. Microsoft office tools).
  • Ability to interface with several electronic health record systems to collect medical records documents for physician review.
  • Utilize organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

  • This position has specific background investigation and periodic re-investigation requirements since its duties require contact with children.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working in a medical clinic conducting front desk operations; greeting patients in person and telephonically; creating routine and/or special reports; managing scheduling templates; booking and scheduling appointments using automated healthcare systems; and coordinating with providers or clinic schedules to avoid scheduling conflicts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
