Duties

  • Functions as a policy developer and manager of programs, projects, studies and activities.
  • Serves as an a key advisor to top level ATF management officials (e.g. Deputy Director, Associate Deputy Director, assistant directors ,division chiefs, special agents in charge, branch chiefs, etc.) on policy issues, projects, and technical matters involving assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Performs complex, in-depth studies and/or directs and coordinates with working groups that cross multi-functionalities on significant regulatory and law enforcement projects that influence ATF's industry operations and enforcement functions and programs of national significance.
  • Functions as a primary coordinator with all the Divisions within the Directorates, Office of Professional Responsibility (OPRSO), Office of Management (OM) and outside entities such as DOJ; provides professional leadership/ guidance in extending, improving and monitoring assigned program areas; devises, develops and implements innovative changes/long-term improvements. 
  • Serves as an ATF spokesperson and point of contact regarding assigned program areas.
  • Prepares presentations and provides briefings on program issues to top-level ATF management officials, representatives from various other Federal, State and local agencies, and officials from other law enforcement entities and related organizations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-14: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-13 Federal grade level.

Specialized experience is experience which has equipped the applicant the ability to develop and evaluate procedures; formulate and direct plans; expertly implement changes in legislation, legal decisions, and initiatives by ATF or DOJ; evaluate findings and recommendations and implement required corrective actions or improvements thorough knowledge of the organization, objectives, operating programs or policies of ATF; and, to apply expert knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, court decisions, and administrative rulings concerning the industries regulated by ATF; and of commerce in firearms and explosives.
