The psychiatrist will provide primary mental health care for Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) patients at least 50% of total available clinic time, , as well as provide primary mental health care in the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic for no more than 50% of available clinic time. The HBPC program provides primary care services in the homes of Veterans living within the HBPC program service area with complex and chronic, disabling diseases.
Summary

HBPC psychiatrist is an independent care provider who is highly skilled in the evaluation/treatment of mental health needs, and serves as a core member of the HBPC Interdisciplinary Team.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus (up to an additional 7.5% of their salary (not to exceed $15k), regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: Annual leave at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period; Sick leave at the rate of four (4) hours per biweekly pay period; 10 paid Federal holidays per year.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend.
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirement and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
Initiates consults and referrals as indicated
Provides psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy as indicated in the treatment plan.
Maintains effective and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters.
Participates in professional and administrative activities as assigned.
Possess the interpersonal and clinical skills to provide primary mental health care.
Conducts history, physical exams and mental status exams on assigned patients.
Completes intake assessments and formulates diagnosis.
Develops and presents treatment plans to the multidisciplinary treatment team.
Orders all necessary laboratory and radiological assessments.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

1-2 years geriatric mental health
Board certified or Board eligible Psychiatrist
