Duties

Help
  • Provide status and progress of work, causes of delays, and additional on the-job training requirements for individual employees.
  • Adjust, change, and perform minor maintenance of buffers, brushes and other attachments on power equipment.
  • Ensure that needed materials and tools are available on site for workers to complete daily duties.
  • Set up and take down cafeteria tables, chairs and trash cans.
  • Maintain restrooms in clean and sanitary condition. Clean and disinfect lavatories, urinals, toilet bowls, sinks, etc.
  • Clean and maintain walls, carpets and ceiling surfaces.
  • Using prescribed and standard cleaning procedures vacuums, dust, mops floors, corridors, patient care areas, utility rooms, offices, employee lounges, bathrooms and other areas daily.
  • Remove stains from a variety of surfaces.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Two year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Work may include assignment to first or second shift.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Custodial Worker Leader. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: providing guidance on cleaning safety and/or housekeeping rules; sweeping, mopping and/or waxing floors; and cleaning restrooms. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability To Lead or Supervise
  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Dexterity and Safety
  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean and in order)


Physical Effort: Occasionally uses heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., industrial type buffers). Occasionally exerts moderately heavy physical effort such as that required in lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, requiring continuous standing, bending, stooping and reaching . Requires working on ladders/scaffold in the performance of some duties.

Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas which are adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated . Exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritation from strong cleaning solutions. Care must be taken to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and scaffolds or when using heavy powered equipment.
