Duties

Help
  • Perform phlebotomy on individuals as directed by laboratory management staff.
  • Ensure proper readings for whole blood coagulation instrument through daily quality control measures on the equipment
  • Insure that standard operating procedures for the assigned section are followed and kept current.

  • Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position may require a Childcare Background Check (CNACI) and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Annual Influenza vaccine is required. Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • National Phlebotomy Certification or Certification eligibility requirement (Certification required to be considered for position).
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in venipuncture for blood collection and processing of laboratory specimens, also utilizing a laboratory information system to access patient orders and/or retrieve data for report of findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). The OPM Qualifications standards provides the following examples; (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.

OR

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Biology and Laboratory Science.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.


Licensure/Certification: National Phlebotomy Certification or Certification eligibility requirement. (Note: Certification must be uploaded in order to be considered for this position. )

  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
