Duties

Help
  • You will assist journeyman by performing specific or general duties of lesser skills, such as providing the journeyman the necessary tools, materials and supplies.
  • You will also assist journeyman by providing physical assistance to perform the painter task in applying a paint with a roller, brush or spray equipment.
  • You will also prepare surface for paint by scraping, sanding and filing.
  • You will perform alone simpler elements of the trade.

This announcement uses the Domestic Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities Base direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee.

A 40 hour work week is typical of this position.

Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

This position may require ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Folk Lift, High lift (JLG) and/or Construction equipment, upon notification.Should work be assigned that requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment, the incumbent will be required to obtain such certification or licensing and maintain any associated qualification requirements.

Must be able to obtain and maintain respirator and scaffolding competent person certification.

Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements for this position.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

The work requires considerable standing, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in cramped, awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries, push and pull buckets of paint weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. Frequently climbs ladders, stands and balances body on scaffolding and stretches while painting. Works overhead in awkward positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works both indoors and outdoors. Often works in cramped quarters and does spray painting in confined interior areas. Frequently is subject to poor lighting and ventilating conditions, dust, dirt, fumes, and noise and to discomfort from paint dropping on hands, face and clothing. Works from scaffolding, ladders and on roofs.
