Duties

Help
  • Initiate work orders for facilities.
  • Prepare cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment.
  • Provide construction guidance to project inspectors.
  • Identify maintenance measures to maximize the life span of facilities.
  • Track the condition of permanent structures to monitor conditions.
  • Collect data to forecast maintenance requirements.
  • Establish a schedule for preventative maintenance to facilities.
  • Provide advice on facility conditions to provide recommendation for preventive action.
  • Use a variety of computer programs to produce required documents.
  • Coordinate the replacement and repair program for equipment.
  • Knowledge of latest engineering techniques to optimize facility maintenance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes processing work orders for facility maintenance and repair; using computer software programs to track work orders for maintenance requests; scheduling equipment for repair, and forecast maintenance requirements for facilities and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes facility maintenance and repair; using computer software program for tracking repairs and life cycle replacement schedules; provide cost estimates for maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; advise and provide recommendations to management regarding facility conditions and preventative maintenance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
