Summary

This Pharmacy Technician (Advanced Practice Pharmacy Technician) position is located in the Pharmacy Department at the Whiteriver hospital. The Incumbent will function independently in various duties involving inpatient and outpatient responsibilities that require the application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical pharmacy practice. The Incumbent will report to the Pharmacy Director.

Help

  • Educate the patients about their medication regimen regarding number of refills, labeling instructions, proper storage, and provides pre-printed medication pamphlets that reviews significant side effects of the medication when appropriate.
  • Conducts a basic review of the chart to determine appropriate patient and number of medications, including quantities to be dispensed, whether doses are within the acceptable range based on patient age and weight, entry of data into the computer accurately for proper prescription labels, assembling labels and appropriate dosage forms for review prior to giving outpatient medication to the patient.
  • Accurately fills new, refill and discharge prescriptions with correct drug name strength, dosage form and quantity according to the patient medication profile.
  • Maintains the physical inventory of the pharmacy department, which includes the outpatient, Omnicell, and pharmacy storage area.
  • Re-packs bulk medication and performs assigned compounding of specially ordered medication.

Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Must have a bank account at a financial institution for electronic direct deposit of salary payment.

Alternative Work Schedule: May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuity of patient care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0661-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Evaluating, analyzing and coordinating work activities to meet workflow demands; independently gathering and analyzing data to generate reports for projects//statistical purposes; training new employees and other pharmacy staff; operating and maintaining specialized pharmacy equipment; performing pharmaceutical procurement and formulary management; maintaining controlled substances per policy and procedures; & performing annual pharmaceutical inventory procedures.

OR

Completed 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the position.

OR

Possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Selective factors are knowledge, skills, abilities, or special qualifications that are in addition to the minimum requirements in a qualification standard, but are determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not meet the Selective Placement Factor are ineligible for further consideration.

Applicant must be Board Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Board (PTCB). AND Certified in one of the specialties from an accrediting institution:

  • Immunization Certification or
  • Medication Reconciliation Certification or
  • Anticoagulation Certification
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave is earned.
