Duties

Help
  • Manage common medical problems encountered in a medical facility. Performs would care debridement and suture placement/ removal of minor lacerations
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services under the guidance of the physician
  • May be required to provide some sub-specialty services with current granted privileges. May perform ambulatory medical and surgical procedures per granted privileges
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, independently formulate full treatment and management regimens based on sound diagnosis
  • Perform physical examinations, collect and record history of present illness and all pertinent review of systems and orders laboratory and radiographic studies for the working diagnosis

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
· Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for thePhysician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
· Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Education and Experience Requirements: Applicants who meet the above basic requirements may qualify for the following grade levels if they meet the educational and/or specialized experience requirements described below.

Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the requirements for the GS-9 (or equivalent) level, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
· Completion of Doctorate of Physician Assistant Studies, Doctorate of Science Physician Assistant (DScPA) or equivalent; or
· Completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a related health field and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Examples of related doctoral degree programs include, but are not limited to, public health; allied health field; public health education; or other related health science programs; or
· A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the GS-9 grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program as described above.

Basic Requirements for the GS-12 and GS-13 (or equivalent):
A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities
and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a full range of physician assistant principals, practices and procedures to appropriately diagnose and treat common medical
problems.
2. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their indications, interactions, contradictions and effects.
3. Skill in taking detailed medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
4. Ability to use specialized medical equipment such as electrocardiograms, hyfracaters, peak flow meters and
5. Liquid nitrogen for cryosurgical procedures.
6. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Tax Law Impact for PCS:
On 22-Dec-2017, Public Law 115-97 - the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 suspended qualified moving expense deductions along with the exclusion for employer reimbursements and payments of moving expenses effective 01-Jan-2018 for tax years 2018 through 2025. The law made taxable certain reimbursements and other payments, including driving mileage, airfare and lodging expenses, en-route travel to the new duty station, and temporary storage of those items. The Federal Travel Regulation Bulletin (FTR) 18-05 issued by General Services Administration (GSA) has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance (WTA) and Relocation Income Tax Allowance (RITA) to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
