Duties

Help
  • Design, oversee, implement, and conduct microbiological scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve problems.
  • Identify and analyze scientific issues and their impact on operations that are critical to the public health community at large.
  • Collaborate with scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, and other study support duties including analyzing and reporting of data and data dissemination to audiences.
  • Provide expert scientific advice, consultation and leadership in designing, coordinating and maintaining scientific project goals, objectives and priorities.
  • Implement scientific policies and procedures on microbiology/biological science practices and principles.
  • Perform biological safety level 4 (BSL-4) procedures and protocols.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

A. Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent from an accredited college and/or university.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


Minimum Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the basic education requirement above, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in providing advice, consultation and leadership in designing, overseeing, implementing and conducting microbiological scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve problems; and experience with biosafety level 4 procedures.

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. However additional selections may be made from multiple locations - Fort Collins, CO, and San Juan, PR.

Salary may be adjusted to include a Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) of 3.13% for Puerto Rico.
