Summary


The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for two (1) Health technician (Holter/EKG) to work in Specialty Clinics within the Ambulatory Care Service, Tucson, Arizona. The position will assist in the set up and monitoring of Holter monitors (24-48 hours) monitoring and scanning, which may be placed while a patient is inpatient or from an outpatient area.

Help

The incumbent will identify irregularities in patient cardiac rhythm and utilize knowledge of cardiac rhythms to verify the data that is provided by EKG and the Holter scanning software; perform analysis of ECG data from Holter monitor to create report, evaluate scan for provider notification criteria, set up Holter monitors in multiple locations which may include inpatient or outpatient areas. The incumbent will manage the MUSE database system: through authentication audits and corrections for final upload into the EMR. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assure all consults for Holter monitors and EKGs performed are acted upon in a timely manner (within seven calendar days).
  • Coordinate to assign user IDs for all staff and new employees who will perform EKGs throughout the medical center and CBOCs, can optimally be done in New Employee Orientation (NEO).
  • Coordinate with Nursing Service that all new employees who will perform EKGs are assigned user IDs and for monitoring EKGs.
  • Assure there are no employees performing EKGs without user ID.
  • Enter VISTA work orders to Bio-Medical Engineering to troubleshoot any issues that arise with the MUSE and EKG machines or any other IT or maintenance issues identified in the clinic areas.
  • Serve as liaison with Bio-Medical Engineering to troubleshoot any issues that arise with the EKG machines.
  • Participate in the training new users in the use of medical equipment and procedures in the clinic areas.
  • Perform complex age specific nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of physical, mental, behavioral or psychological needs.
  • Obtain and record accurate vital signs (height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure);
  • Set-up patients for exams/procedures; explain the purpose of procedures;
  • Ensure patient understanding of procedures.
  • Assist Provider as needed in the case of support for a procedure.
  • Receive and work to resolve all customer complaints, referring unresolved complaints to supervisor.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned (i.e. secure messaging, returning phone calls, ordering supplies, etc).
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 07:30 am - 4:00 pm or 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/21/2020.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS -6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS -5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: GS -6: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS -5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:Set up/Monitor Holter monitors Setting-up patients for exams/procedures and explaining the purpose of procedures (EKG): providing support duties to medical or health personnel . OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Graduate education, or an internship which meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work performed requires regular and recurring periods of prolonged walking throughout the medical center. It also requires regular and recurring physical exertion assisting patients onto procedure tables, assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs, positioning patients, standing for prolonged periods, reaching, bending and lifting light loads.
