You will perform installation access at the military installation visitor control center. Safeguard Government personnel, information, operations, and critical assets in accordance with a wide variety of Federal rules and agency/local regulations/policies.
Screen employees, visitors, and contractor personnel for visitor access on military installations.
Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
Process a variety of NCIC queries and provide timely response.
Control, prepare and issue identification badges, cards and passes that allow access to civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors to the installation.
Deny access to unauthorized personnel or those who do not meet authorized entry criteria.
Operate and maintain various items of access control equipment and systems.
Maintain a variety of files, access control registers, databases, and installation access denial/approval packets and records.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
Position requires a qualified typist, 40 words per minute.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one or more of the following: experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into military installations/controlled areas; experience transcribing or entering data using special codes in accordance with Federal and state regulations (e.g. style codes, manufacturer's codes, wanted or missing persons, etc.); and/or experience dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
