Summary

This position is located in the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), in Little Rock, AR.

The purpose of this position is to directly assist the Area Director, Assistant Area Director, Compliance, and Compliance Assistance Staff by performing technical and administrative duties in support of the compliance based operational mission of the office.

This position is inside the bargaining unit.

Duties

Help

The incumbent of this position will perform the full range of duties involving technical support for all safety and health inspection or investigations activities to include citation processing, case file maintenance, inspection data entry, abatement, post-citation processes, and final case file disposition. Independently manages the office's unprogrammed activity (UPA) intake process and provides technical support for processing, case file maintenance, data entry and final disposition of UPA files. Maintains all office inspection case files in accordance with established Federal, Department of Labor, and OSHA records management directives. Coordinates the archiving and destruction of case files in accordance with published records schedules. Assists senior technical staff and Area Office management with office and field aspects of enforcement and compliance assistance activities including inspections, air and noise monitoring, outreach activities, training, VPP evaluations, and other field activities. Perform sampling activities such as equipment calibration, field monitoring of equipment, and sample handling. Provides assistance in preparing for opening and closing conferences. Acts as the Area Office's central point of contact on matters pertaining to OSHA programs. Serves as the Area Office's timekeeper, monitoring the Agency's time and attendance system. Provides assistance in the area office’s of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), property accountability, government purchase card, time keeping, inventory and budget programs as needed.

*Duties at the GS-06, and GS-07 are development leading up to the full performance level of the GS-08 which are listed above.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements Experience:  Possess experience that involved: (l) identifying, preventing, or eliminating safety hazards in work methods or environmental conditions; or (2) safety training or promotion. Such experience must have provided a practical knowledge of occupational and environmental safety hazards, survey techniques, and control and preventive methods. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: biological technician, medical technician, engineering technician, fire prevention inspector, and environmental health worker.

For GS-6In addition to meeting the individual occupational requirement, Applicants must have at least 52 weeks experience at the next lower level in the normal career progression of the position being filled. When compared to Federal experience, this experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-05. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or Private sectors. Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Assembling information for use in special projects, evaluations, conferences, and meetings, etc., using various sources;
  • Utilizing office software packages (e.g. word processing, database, spreadsheet, electronic mail or graphics) to produce correspondence, and reports, in support of the program functions;
  • Performing a variety of administrative functions such as sending/retrieving correspondence, answering phone calls, maintaining time and attendance records, personnel documents, making travel arrangements, preparing travel vouchers, arranging conferences/ meetings, greeting and directing visitors and maintaining schedules;
  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing, to provide and receive information from a variety of internal and external contacts.

Or,

GRADUATE LEVEL EDUCATION or an INTERNSHIP with completed courses directly related to this position.

Or

A combination of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the GS-05 level in or related to the work of this position and education with completed coursework directly related to this position.

For GS-7In addition to meeting the individual occupational requirement, Applicants must have at least 52 weeks experience at the next lower level in the normal career progression of the position being filled. When compared to Federal experience, this experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level of GS-06. This experience may have been gained either in the Federal or Private sectors. Examples of specialized experience include:*Provides technical support for safety and/or health inspection activities by processing citations, maintaining case files, entering inspection data and case file disposition;

  • Researching, organizing, and assembling information for use in special projects, evaluations, conferences, and meetings, etc., using various sources;
  • Utilizing advanced functions of various office software packages (e.g. word processing, database, spreadsheet, electronic mail or graphics) to produce correspondence, reports, generate statistical summaries and data lists in support of the program functions.

Or,

ONE (1) FULL YEAR OF GRADUATE LEVEL EDUCATION or an INTERNSHIP with completed courses directly related to the work of THIS POSITION.

Or,

A combination of SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE equivalent to the GS-06 level in or related to the work of THIS POSITION and EDUCATION with completed coursework directly related to the work of THIS POSITION.
