Summary

Serves as team lead within the Solid Launch Systems and Analysis Branch in the Solid Systems Propulsion Division at Marshall Space Flight Center. Responsibilities include evaluating existing solid propellant rockets and their performance characteristics; testing and modification of existing systems to meet special experimental requirements; and initiation and monitoring of research and development programs on solid propulsion systems.

Duties

Help
  • Ensures the organization's strategic plan is communicated and integrated into the team's goals and objectives including pursuit of resources and development of partnerships/proposals that align with the plan.
  • Leads the team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees to assure expectations are understood and being met; takes direction from management and provides upward flow of information, issues and decisions.
  • Holds regular project/team meetings and provides mentorship; reports on the status and progress of work and assures completion of milestones and deliverables accepting responsibility for all activities with the team.
  • Leads/participates in development, maintenance and application of ballistics tools and methodologies. Acts as the authoritative source on solid rocket motor ballistic and grain design.

Qualifications

Must have one year time-in-grade at the GS-13 grade level.

In addition to Basic Education, applicant must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Specialized experience is defined as professional working experience that included the following:

* Experience providing technical leadership in mechanical and aerospace engineering theory, principles, techniques, and practices as it applies to solid propellant rocket engineering, solid motor grain design, ballistic performance, and associated models and analysis.

* Experience that demonstrates knowledge of materials strengths and properties, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics sufficient to test and modify existing systems to meet special experimental requirements.

* Experience that demonstrates knowledge of broad operating programs to advise senior colleagues and agency officials.
