Duties

Help
  • Provide independent evaluation of new patients to include a relevant history, mental status, exam, nature of presenting problem, previous psychological history, etc., for use in screening evaluation and disposition of the case.
  • Perform vitals for the patients that are being seen by a member of the Psychiatry Clinic.
  • Administer medications as and when requested by Psychiatrist.
  • Coordinate and instruct medication groups for beneficiaries that have been newly prescribed medication(s) from a member of the Psychiatry Clinic.
  • Provide direction for nursing practice through the implementation of the nursing process, American Nurses Association Standards of Nursing Care and accreditation standards.
  • Act as a liaison between the Inpatient Psychiatric Nursing Unit and the Behavioral Health Clinic.
  • Provide staff education to providers and beneficiaries based on clinical knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain complete and thorough documentation of all evaluations and therapeutic intervention in the electronic or paper medical records in accordance with GLWACH, MEDCOM/OTSG and accreditation standards.
  • A childcare background may be required.
  • A pre-employment physical may be required. An annual medical examination or surveillance may be required.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a current registered nursing license in any state, commonwealth or province of the United States.
  • The incumbent must maintain a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • The incumbent will be required to have a Hepatitis B immunization series as well as an immunization screening as a condition of employment.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA 5019-R, and/or DA Form 7412 "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • A criminal background check is required for this position.
  • This position requires an annual seasonal influenza vaccination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Individual Occupational Requirement:

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. (NOTE: You must upload a copy of your transcripts.)

License
: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

Education Substitution: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, that is directly related to the work of the position. (NOTE: You must upload a copy of your transcript.)

OR

Degree and Experience:
Possession of a diploma, associates degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program AND at least one full year of professional nursing experience. Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: providing comprehensive nursing care to psychiatric patients, educating patients and staff and administering medications via various routes.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
