Summary

Serve as a Medical Supply Technician in the Integrated Surgical Services (Central Sterile Reprocessing) department at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) located in Phoenix, AZ. There are multiple positions to be filled. Incumbent(s) will support daily operations of the reprocessing of reusable medical/dental supplies and instrumentation and will report to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse of Central Sterile Reprocessing.

  • Perform a full range of routine, specialized and non-routine quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments
  • Prepares contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures
  • Account for and process surgical instruments to include complex loaner sets for scheduled and emergent cases
  • Select the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations
  • Conduct inventory of all sterilized trays, checking package integrity and expiration dates

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Upon tentative selection, selectee will be requested to complete, sign, and submit the Addendum to OF-306, Child Care & Indian Child Care Worker Position form. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

On-call hours or standby duty may be required.

May work 10 hour shifts or alternate work schedules (rotating, evenings, and weekends) to provide continuity of service.

Must have a viable bank account at a financial institution for electronic direct deposit of salary payment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-7 level -

  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Examples include: utilizing technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items; applying knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; aseptic techniques and skill in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers.
  • One full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position.
  • A combination of graduate education and specialized experience listed above. One year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours unless the school has determined otherwise.
Selective Placement Factor: Applicants must also possess one of the following credentials in order to be considered for this position. You must provide proof of meeting this requirement with your application packet.
  • Credential from The International Association of Health Care Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST); OR
  • Credential from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) in any of the five (5) CBSPD certifications.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
