Summary

Sets up sterile field with all required items for each procedure in the operating room.
Plans and discusses each procedure with surgical professionals and ensures that all supplies and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedures.
Prepares, organizes and maintains highly complex sterile surgical set-ups.
Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended period of time.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
One year specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level; OR
One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7
Individual Occupation Requirements - Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrist. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, your specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing assistance to surgeons during a variety of procedures (i.e., handle surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment); set up sterile fields with required items for each surgical procedures such as air-powered equipment, fiber-optic equipment, laparoscopy equipment, etc.; handle surgical specimens appropriately; train new operating room staff in the operation of equipment, sterile techniques, handling of instruments or procedures.
Graduate Education: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
Selective Placement Factor:Selective factors must represent knowledge, skills or abilities that are essential for successful job performance and cannot reasonably be acquired on the job during the period of orientation/training customary for the position being filled.
