Duties

Help
  • Provide business management support to major programs; procure ground and flight hardware; plan and prepare organizational budgets; conduct financial audits, and plan, award, and manage contracts.
  • Provide input to the Contract Specialist regarding new contracts by defining statements of work, preparing draft solicitations, supporting the evaluation of proposals, and participating in the development of pre-negotiation positions.
  • Assists the Contract Specialist in processing vouchers, maintaining contract files, and closing out completed contracts.
  • Review requests made by the line organizations with the Contract Specialist or Budget Analyst for basic understanding.
  • You will work under the guidance of and assist business professionals with progressively responsible duties, which are related to your academic studies.

  • Maintain enrollment at least half time as defined by the institution
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale
  • Applicants must have an expected graduation date of no earlier than one year from the closing date of this announcement
  • You will be expected to start on August 19, 2019 or January 21, 2020

Qualifications

Starting GS grade levels are determined by education level:

-For GS-4: Enrolled in a certificate program, associates or bachelors degree program and have completed at
least 30 semester hours or at least 45 quarter hours of undergraduate education

-For GS-5: Enrolled in a certificate program, associates or bachelors degree program and have completed at
least 60 semester hours or at least 90 quarter hours of undergraduate education

-For GS-6: Enrolled in a certificate program, associates or bachelors degree program and have completed at
least 90 or more semester hours or 135 or more quarter hours of undergraduate education

-For GS-7: Accepted into a masters or juris doctor program or in the first year of a masters or juris doctor
program

-For GS-9: Completed one academic year of a masters or juris doctor program or accepted into a doctorate
program or in thie first year of a doctorate program

-For GS-11: Completed one year of doctorate-level study

Education

Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Law, Contracts, Purchasing, Economics, Industrial Management, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Supply Chain Management or Organization, Management, Communication, Journalism, Human Resources, International
Business, Math, and Public Administration.

This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Program which is a formal training program.

The NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This program follows the Cooperative Education (Co-op) Model, which is a work/study program in which you can gain valuable work experience while completing your degree requirements.

In our program, you will alternate between terms at school and paid employment at JSC. The unique aspect of JSC's IEP is that each work tour, you will rotate into a new functional area. This job will help you gain invaluable work experience in several different areas before graduation.

You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations. Additionally, this position requires you to work a specific schedule such as one semester at school followed by one semester at NASA.

You must meet eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

You will only be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify.

You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completing degree requirements provided they:

  • Successfully completed an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a 4.0 scale);
  • Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
  • Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and
  • Maintain acceptable performance.
Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that NASA will offer conversion. At NASA, term appointments last from one to six years. If an Intern is converted to a term appointment, they may later be converted to a permanent appointment without competing.

The Intern may be converted to a term or permanent appointment with promotion potential to the GS-12 level.

The payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.
