Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-9 level you must have:
A. At least one full year of specialized IT experience completing assignments or parts of projects relative to the security of information systems. This could include: (1) applying basic security principles, practices, and procedures in the administration of an information security program; (2) assisting in identifying need for changes based on new security technologies or threats; and/or (3) assisting in the production of communication materials for cybersecurity information sharing. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service.

B. Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a master's or equivalent graduate degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
To qualify at the GS-11 level you must have:
A. At least one full year of specialized IT experience assisting in the administration of an information security program. This could include: (1) applying security principles, practices, and procedures in the administration of an information security program; (2) identifying need for changes to systems based on new security technologies or threats; (3) responding to user problems by analyzing and resolving incidents or breakdowns; and/or (4) producing communication materials for cybersecurity information sharing. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service.

B. Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
To qualify at the GS-12 level you must have at least one full year of specialized IT experience supporting an information security program. This could include: (1) implementing IT security policies and strategies governing the operation of information systems and networks; (2) monitoring use of data files or regulating access to prevent or defend against unauthorized access to systems; (3) identifying and correcting information system security violations, incidents, or breakdowns; and/or (4) verifying that sensitive or classified information systems meet the appropriate safeguards required by regulations or statutes. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.
To qualify at the GS-13 level you must have at least one full year of specialized IT experience implementing and maintaining an information security program. This could include: (1) maintaining an organization's information system security program to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data; (2) monitoring security requirements for certification and accreditation, network operations and protocols, and/or systems testing and evaluation; (3) establishing vulnerability reporting criteria; (4) reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies for potential security threats or risks; and/or (5) verifying that sensitive or classified information systems meet the appropriate safeguards required by regulations or statutes. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
To qualify at the GS-14 level you must have at least one full year of specialized IT experience developing, implementing and evaluating an information security program. This could include: (1) implementing security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs; (2) developing and documenting requirements, capabilities, and constraints for system design procedures and processes; (3) recommending best practices, plans and policies to improve cybersecurity incident response and coordination; (4) developing and interpreting security policies and strategies governing the operation of information systems and networks; and/or (5) providing expert advice concerning improving cyber security and IT risk management. This experience must be comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
