Help

As a Pathways Intern at JSC, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to our continued work of providing business management support to major programs; procuring ground and flight hardware; planning and preparing organizational budgets; conducting financial audits and planning, awarding, and managing contracts. You will work under the guidance of and assist business professionals with progressively
responsible duties, which are related to your academic studies.

Examples of possible assignments include:

-Provide input to the Contract Specialist regarding new contracts by defining statements of work, preparing draft solicitations, supporting the evaluation of proposals, and participating in the development of pre-negotiation positions prior to contractor selection.
-Assists the Contract Specialist in processing vouchers, maintaining contract files, and closing out completed contracts.
-Review requests made by the line organizations with the Contract Specialist or Budget Analyst for basic understanding.

We are seeking students who have a core foundation of logical reasoning, with the ability to learn quickly, pay attention to detail, communicate effectively, and who work well with teams. You will support experienced accountants and will engage in experiences based on your current educational level.

  • Pursuing a degree
  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment at accredited educational institution
  • Cumulative GPA 2.9 or higher
  • Maintain enrollment at least half time as defined by the institution

You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.

Applicants must have an expected graduation date of no earlier than one year from the closing date of this announcement.

Be available to begin work by January 22, 2018 or August 20, 2018.

Qualifications

Starting GS grade (salary) levels are determined by education level completed:

GS-4: Enrolled in a certificate program, associate’s or bachelor’s degree program and have completed at least 30 semester hours or at least 45 quarter hours of undergraduate education
GS-5: Enrolled in a certificate program, associate’s or bachelor’s degree program and have completed at least 60 semester hours or at least 90 quarter hours of undergraduate education
GS-6: Enrolled in a certificate or bachelor’s degree program and have completed 90 or more semester hours or 135 or more quarter hours of undergraduate education
GS-7: Accepted into a master’s or juris doctor program OR in the first year of a master’s or juris doctor program
GS-9: Completed one academic year of a master’s or juris doctor program OR accepted into a doctorate program OR in the first year of a doctorate program
GS-11: Completed one year of doctorate-level study

Education

Preferred majors include, but are not limited to: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Law, Contracts, Purchasing, Economics, Industrial Management, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Supply Chain Management or Organization, Management, Communication, Journalism, Human Resources, and Industrial Hygiene.

The NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This program follows the Cooperative Education (Co-op) Model, which is a work/study program in which you
can gain valuable work experience while completing your degree requirements.

In our program, you will alternate between terms at school and paid employment at JSC. The unique aspect of JSC's IEP is that each work tour, you will rotate into a new functional area. This job will help you gain invaluable work experience in several different areas before graduation.

You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations. Additionally, this position requires you to work a specific schedule such as one semester at school followed by one semester at NASA.

Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional, accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.

You must meet eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

You will only be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify.

Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed, student trainee work experience, and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.

You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completion of degree requirements provided they:

-Successfully completed an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.90 (on a 4.00 scale)
- Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
- Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and
- Maintain acceptable performance.

Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that NASA will offer conversion to a term or permanent job.

If you are tentatively selected for this position, you may be required to undergo a pre-employment background investigation. If you are converted to a term or permanent position, you may be further promoted up to the GS-12 level. Promotion is not guaranteed.

The payment of relocation expenses is not authorized.
