This is an appointment expected to start no earlier than September 2017, and last at least 1 calendar year. The NASA Pathways Intern Program provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience. This is a formal training program consisting of rotational periods of study and work. Specialized training is designed to accelerate an employee to the full performance level. The participant completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program. Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress and sign a Pathways Agreement.

The Pathways Intern will be working in the Logistics and Technical Information Division which provides a broad range of institutional services in support of NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) program, project, research and institutional needs. These services include Logistics Services, Media Services, Records Management and Archives/History, Library and Learning Center, Metrology Services, Administrative and Clerical Services, Janitorial Services, and Waste Management. Many of these services are provided through support service contracts. LTID is staffed with a team of professionals who provide programmatic oversight and management of these services to ensure they meet contractual requirements, regulatory and policy requirements, and are aligned to meet the needs of the GRC.

The Intern will be converting to a Logistics Management Specialist with a full performance to the GS-12 level.

Help

The Intern will provide support for all logistics services, including the oversight of programs and contracted services to include: internal and external transportation services; vehicle fleet management and repair; freight traffic management; shipment of freight; mail distributions and delivery of materials, equipment and packages; acquisition of stores, stock, furniture, fuels, propellants, chemicals, and other hazardous materials; inventory, contract property, and equipment management; receiving and warehousing of stores, stock, supplies, hazardous materials, furniture, idle or excess property, and instruments; excess property acquisition, redistribution and disposal; solid waste, scrap metal removal, recycling, and custodial services; furniture management, including the coordination of acquisitions and moving services; safety and environmental related programs.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment;
  • Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution leading to a bachelor's degree or higher with at least 30 semester hours completed;
  • Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution; and
  • Have and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.90 (on a 4.00 scale).
  • Have at least one calendar year remaining in your studies by the start date of the appointment. Graduation date is determined by the information provided by you, the candidate.
Your answers to the NASA Supplemental Questions will be used for initial qualifications. If you do not meet the position requirements based on your answers, you will not be considered for the position.

The grade level you qualify for is based on education:
GS-4/1 ($30,543 pa) - Completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or higher (1 academic year is the equivalent of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).

GS-5/1 ($34,171 pa) - Completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or higher (2 academic years is the equivalent of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours).

GS-6/1 ($38,091 pa) - Completion of 3 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or higher (3 academic years is the equivalent of 90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours). The GS-6 level is the full performance level for undergraduate students.

Pathways candidates must be pursuing or planning to pursue a standard professional curriculum in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher.

You will be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify. Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed, student trainee work experience, and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.

You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

This is an appointment expected to start no earlier than September 2017, and last at least 1 year. Interns may work schedules not to exceed 1,040 hours per fiscal year (part-time or full-time on an intermittent basis). The supervisor and Intern will agree on a formally-arranged schedule of school and work rotations. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study, usually a semester, a summer, or a quarter in length. Interns must complete 640 hours of work in order to be eligible for conversion to the competitive service.   • Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and
  • Maintain acceptable performance.
