This position is located at the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program (SARP), Point Loma, Naval Medical Center, San Diego.  The Supervisory Nurse Practitioner provides direct patient care and assesses complex and acutely ill mental health patients through the collection of health history, physical and mental status examinations and health risk appraisal.

Duties

Help

·         Provide direct patient care; stabilizes patients, minimizes complications, provides physical and psychological support, facilitates restoration of maximal health potential, and evaluates health risk factors.

·         Prescribe medications, acquires, develops and documents health histories, interventions, and treatment summaries.

·         Perform physical examinations, and manages patients in a residential environment.

·         Develop and implement therapeutic plans and clinical practice to achieve nursing and medical goals.

·         Coordinate multidisciplinary team in the implementation of an established plan of care for individual patients or specialty populations.

REQUIREMENTS: 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

A security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.   If you possess a security clearance, please indicate the level and termination date in your resume.

In accordance with Executive Order 12564, applicants selected are required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.  In addition, this position is a drug-testing designated position (TDP) subject to random testing for illegal drug use. 

Selectee must be a registered professional nurse with current license.

Selectee may be required to complete a one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period. 

Required TB test/Hepatitis B screening.

Work requires extensive walking, standing, stretching, lifting, transporting and bending in caring for patients; the ability to influence confused patients regarding their care, and physically control or defend against emotionally ill or confused patients. Work is performed in a health care setting where there is exposure to contagious disease, radiation, infection. Gloves, gowns and masks are frequently necessary.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Basic Requirements: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant; and  Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.  An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience as a supervisor and as a mental health nurse practitioner with advanced educational preparation, expanded knowledge, and clinical expertise in healthcare delivery and health promotion within a treatment fcility for addictions.
