Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Manage and supervise resources, direct operations, provide quality customer service, and oversee the maintenance of a flexible, robust, and survivable work infrastructure (voice and data) to maximize the business continuity and support the mission and strategic planning for the United States Mint. Provide expert technical assistance to local information technology staff and end users on issues related to a variety of information technology disciplines such as Internet, network, operating systems, data management, customer support, and security. Provide assistance throughout the agency in terms of consulting about the use of hardware devices, configurations and software packages, designs, and technical problems.

GS-12 You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing state-of-the-art technical support for infrastructure and operations management, design of moderate to complex technological structure, quality repeatable work products, troubleshooting moderate to complex failures in critical system and operational support services that complement a business' processes only referring on issues that are most complex and unique to senior specialist; And mastery in designing, building, implementing, maintaining or troubleshooting complex enterprise networking infrastructures and repeatable processes that improve service delivery to the business (these can be demonstrated by possessing a certificate in Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Microsoft Certified System Professional (MCSE)).

GS-13 You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

If selected for this position, you will be required to:

Complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

We use a multi-step process to evaluate and refer applicants:

a)    Minimum Requirements: Your application must show that you meet all requirements, including the education and/or experience required for this position. You may be found "not qualified" if you do not possess the minimum competencies required for the position. If your application is incomplete, we may rate you as ineligible.

b)    Rating: Your application will be evaluated in the following areas:

  • Ability to communicate orally, as well as in writing,
  • Ability to manage an IT customer service organization,
  • Ability to work in a team environment,
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems in a network environment,
  • Ability to provide program and project leadership in an IT environment,
  • Knowledge of policy guidance.

We may lower your rating if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application. Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three categories, Superior, Good, and Acceptable, depending on your experience and education related to this position. Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.

c)    Referral: If you are among the top qualified candidates, your application will be referred to a selecting official for consideration and possible interview.
