About the position: This position is Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the 673 FSS Buckner Pool on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK .

Regular Part-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 20 hours to a maximum of 34 hours per week.

Duties

Help

Assists the Aquatics Manager in the planning, organizing, and management of programs in assigned aquatics facility(s). Assists the Aquatics Manager with organizing and publicizing aquatics activities and programs, assuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and motivating participants, which includes the completion and submission of marketing requests for event promotion. Assists in the administration of the swimming lesson program with instruction to groups of adults and/or children, or to individual adults or children. Instructs patrons on rules and procedures for safe swimming. Works in swimming pool environment where lifeguards are present to perform lifesaving activity. Performs 1st level supervisor duty for lifeguard personnel assigned to the aquatics program. Assigns, directs and reviews the work of subordinate employees; plans and carries out the training and development of employees; evaluates employee work performance; recommends selections, status changes and disciplinary actions; plans schedules, and coordinates work operations, explains management policies. Works to achieve the objectives of personnel programs and policies and deals effectively with employees on complaints, grievances, and other matters involved in the day-to-day administration of the Aquatics Program. Ensures lifeguard coverage for all programming. Ensures water quality testing is performed in accordance with all applicable regulations and standards; reports deficiencies to the Aquatics Manager and the Fitness Center Director. Inspects pool and equipment to ensure they are operated in a safe manner and as instructed. Ensures that all lifeguards continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Primary Lifeguard Instructor & alternate Water Safety Instructor for the facility(s); provides guidance and conducts initial & in-service/continuing education for assigned personnel on lessons, lesson plans, teaching techniques, swim techniques, materials, rescue techniques, and other topics. Provides continuing education/certification in Lifeguard Instruction, Lifeguarding, First Aid/CPR/AED, emergency oxygen, blood borne pathogens. Provides employees advice and guidance on proper methods and techniques and ensures staff follow all applicable processes and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have at least 1 year experience in pool operations and working knowledge of aquatic facility rules, procedures, and equipment. Must demonstrate skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and/or evaluating aquatics programs. Must possess an approved and current nationally recognized certification in Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguarding, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogen Training and First Aid/CPR/AED. Preferred certifications include Water Safety Instructor, Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Certified Pool Operator and the previously mentioned certifications. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Education
