Duties

Help

The selectee will serve as a Training Instructor (Operational Medicine) in the Office of the Deputy Director, Operational Medicine Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Developing, updating, and coordinating Secret Service emergency services course curriculum, designs, training aids, and instructing training courses.
  • Participating in task/topic analyses for determining training and education requirements or in special staff studies of training/education and testing material.
  • Teaching and providing training for Law Enforcement Responder (LER) classes, EMT classes, Advanced EMT classes, EMT/AEMT/Paramedic refresher courses, specialized emergency medicine and rescue courses for protective detail personnel and emergency medicine, emergency preparedness and rescue courses for personnel.
  • Conducting a variety of ad hoc instructional, administrative, and technical research assignments in support of foreign and domestic protective assignments, as well as force.

  • Applicants with a Maryland Emergency Medical Technician (MD EMT) certification, if selected, must attain and maintain a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification within 2 years of employment.
As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Qualifications

To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.

You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $120,579.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as:

  • Evaluating emergency medicine instructional material for course development or modifications using instructional strategies.
  • Determining personnel training needs to instruct or provide specialized training in emergency operations and/or emergency medical services.
  • Resolving problems concerning design and development of training and evaluation materials in coordination with subject matter experts.
  • Preparing documents, surveys, or memoranda for briefings and meetings for emergency medical services.

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement to be considered qualified for the position:

  • Must possess and maintain an active Maryland Emergency Medical Technician (MD EMT) OR National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification.
