This position is located under the Office of Intelligence Operations, The National Firearms Trafficking Center in Washington, District of Columbia.

  • Manages the Branch or Division responsible for law enforcement programs, functions, or operations encompassing the overall law enforcement mission of the organization.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees studies and surveys to evaluate Division or Branch programs and ensure efficiency and economy of operations.
  • Furnishes technical information and advice to Division Chief Assistant Director and/or Deputy Assistant Director (s) in order to provide direction and uniformity in Division or Branch programs and projects.
  • Represents the Bureau in interagency meetings, conferences, and ad hoc committees on Division or Branch issues and program initiatives with policy official at the Department of Justice.

MOBILITY PLAN: New employees hired pursuant to this vacancy announcement must sign a mobility agreement. The purpose of ATF's mobility policy is to enhance career development and progression, and achieve mission and business effectiveness. To accomplish these objectives, the mobility plan will facilitate the movement of employees through special short-term assignments or permanent reassignments throughout the Bureau. Applicants who decline to sign a mobility agreement, as required, will be removed from the hiring process.

Key Requirements:
  1. Top Secret/SCI clearance is required for this position
  2. Subject to random drug testing
  3. Requires proficiency with a firearm per ATF's Standard.
  4. May be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.
The 1811 position requires law enforcement experience and is covered by special retirement provisions, including maximum entry age requirements. The successful applicant must be able to display and maintain the required proficiency with firearms per ATF's firearms proficiency standards. Complete or have previously completed the basic criminal investigative courses (Criminal Investigator Training Program, Special Agent Basic Training) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Complete a medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with ATF's standards and policies.

Qualifications

To qualify for GS- 15 candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14.

This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized experience includes:

  • Providing leadership and supervision to a team; AND
  • Evaluating programs or projects to analyze, evaluate and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operations; AND
  • Providing recommendations on internal and external program and policy issues affecting organizational operations.
