Duties

Help

  • Assists assigned personnel in all areas of the Auto Hobby Shop.
  • Operates a variety of equipment in assigned area, to include computer-based programs, copiers, telephones, vehicle/motorcycle lifts, tire changing and balancing machines, drill press, hydraulic press, drill press, table grinder, vices, steam/pressure washers and hand power tools. Responsible for operating the cash register, collecting money, makes change, and issues receipts.
  • At the end of each shift, closes out the cash register, completes required paperwork and submits entire package to supervisor. Assists in uploading financial data into NAFDIS and submitting daily deposits to the NAF Accounting Office.
  • Assists customers in placing special orders. Maintains security of all tools, equipment and funds assigned. Provides customer service,
    answers telephone and assists shop users with auto skill development, safety procedures and issuing customers the proper tools for work
    being done on their vehicles. With guidance from the supervisor, provides guidance on auto skills. Maintains clean, neat and safe work
    area.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely. Performs other related duties and assists facility supervisor as requested.

The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is citizens, permanent residents, and legal residents of the United States (US) who reside within the local commuting area (60 mile radius) of RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom (UK), or will do so within the next 30 days. Permanent and legal residents of the US must be citizens of a NATO country, unless authorized to reside in the UK as a dependent of an employee who serves in support of the US Visiting Forces. Eligible applicants must possess a US-issued social security number and be able to provide documentation proving residency status in the UK. Documentation could include PCS Orders, UK Visa, etc.

Applicants cannot be 'ordinarily resident'. A person is considered to be 'ordinarily resident' if they have resided in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 366 days without an affiliation to the US Visiting Forces. Time spent in the UK as an employee, or dependent of an employee, of a US agency serving and supporting the US Visiting Forces (i.e., active duty military, federal civilian, AAFES, Red Cross, one of the contract universities, a military banking facility or federal credit union, or US government contractors) is not counted toward being 'ordinary resident'.

In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens (including UK dual citizens) are not eligible for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Must have experience with computer-based programs, copiers, telephones, customer service, retail operations, and organizational skills.
  • Recommended experience with vehicle/motorcycle lifts, tire changing and balancing machines, drill press, hydraulic press, table grinder,
    vices, steam/pressure washers and hand power tools.
  • Must be able to read, write, spell and figure basic math. Must have a clear speaking voice and be able to deal with the public.
  • May work uncommon work schedule, including weekends and holidays. Requires continuous standing, walking and stooping.
  • Subject to metal splinters, loud noises, chemical fumes, cuts, burns and bruises.
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry items up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety regulations and standards.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

  • Probationary period may be required.
