This position is within the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Service in the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) in Aurora, Colorado. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that non-expandable (NX) supplies and materials are distributed to areas serviced by Supply Chain Management, providing Service Lines and other hospital functional areas with equipment and materials.

Duties

Help

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Review existing stock and manufacturers' catalogs, manuals and listings to obtain substitute or interchangeable items to supply in lieu of items requisitioned.
  • Communicate with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding availability and functionality of non-expandable equipment and supplies.
  • Provide guidance to customers on identification of material through research of original equipment manufacturers part catalog for part numbers, descriptions, and size of parts needed.
  • Process applicable catalog update transactions in accordance with current published procedures.
  • Periodically, review assigned manufacturers code and part numbers for continued validity and take necessary action to update, delete, or dispose of in accordance with published guidelines.
  • Interact with clinical and administrative customers to ensure issues and needs are identified and either resolved or escalated to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists as needed.
  • Communicate to the lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures, providing information as needed orally or in writing regarding customer or external stakeholder issues, general telephone inquiries and visitor referrals.
  • Coordinate drop-off of new or transferred equipment and pick up of turn in equipment; scanner pick up and drop off for annual Electronic Inventory Listing (EIL) inventory; and delivery times and area with contractors and vendors with other VA activities, contractors or manufacturers through personal transactions.
  • Review numerous computer output listings in the performance of research and identification of supplies as well as prepares system inquiries and interpret the responses.
  • Receive non-expendable equipment and material into the VA Health Care System and supported catchment area.
  • Unpack/uncrate supplies from shipping cartons and properly scans, bar codes, and stores supplies and material.
  • Store items in accordance with established guidelines, utilizing a computerized inventory system, to ensure integrity of the supplies and material and the data integrity of the inventory management system.
  • Distribute items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management system.
  • Deliver equipment in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring equipment and material delivered are in operational condition.
  • Process receipt and turn-in transaction to record in the equipment system of record and account for incoming materiel.
  • Assist in other functional areas of the Section and performs other duties as assigned.
Driver's License Requirement:
Incumbent must possess a current, valid state-issued driver's license for this position. (Please do NOT submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of interview.)

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.

Work Environment: Work is performed throughout the Health Care System and supported areas, which includes wards, storage buildings, and warehouses that range from a clean environment to hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Work requires maintaining a clean environment while performing tasks that can produce dust or other infectious pollutants while transitioning between environments.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/15/2025.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing equipment and material to clinical and/or administrative areas; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing, and distributing equipment and related material; utilizing an automated system to maintain equipment records; and answering customer questions regarding non-expandable equipment and materials.

  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school education as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
