Help

As GENERAL SUPPLY SPECIALIST (Title 32), GS-2001-7/9, you will provide centralized oversight of critical squadron programs. Measures LRS processes through inventory analysis, surveillance, trends and standards, develops and writes local policy/procedures and performs over the shoulder inspections. Also responsible for all funds management functions including satellite stock fund management in support of unit mission.

Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:

  • Collect, organize, and review supply, maintenance, financial, and operational data to identify discrepancies, abnormal trends, or missing information.
  • Perform analysis of routine or recurring data reports to detect errors, initiate corrective actions, or elevate issues to higher-graded specialists.
  • Perform research on inventory discrepancies, adjustments, and loss trends to ensure accuracy and integrity within supply systems.
  • Evaluate incoming and outgoing discrepancy reports to verify completeness and determine required follow-up actions.
  • Review and maintain inspection, audit, staff assistance, and surveillance reports to ensure proper documentation and historical continuity.
  • Perform analysis on technical squadron functions by comparing historical and current data to identify deficiencies or potential problems.
  • Analyze unexpected fluctuations or trends in supply, interface, or financial data and recommend corrective actions to improve operations.
  • Analyze routine supply or budget problems using established guidelines and resolve issues of limited complexity.
  • Assist in planning and conducting special initiatives, studies, or projects by helping prepare findings, reports, and recommended solutions.
  • Analyze financial transactions affecting stock fund operations and initiate corrective actions for identified errors.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for internal surveillances, inspections, or staff assistance visits across squadron elements.
  • Assist in preparing long- and short-range projections for stock fund operations using trend analysis and historical data.
  • Draft or prepare operating instructions, supplements, reports, letters, and other documentation to support supply management functions.
  • Prepare and manage organizational cost center records by reviewing data for accuracy and forecasting future requirements.
  • Participate in preparing reports, briefings, or written summaries outlining analytical findings and recommendations for improvement.
  • Serve as the point of contact for supply-related customer issues that cannot be resolved at the flight level.
  • Brief supervisors, managers, or working groups on interpretations of supply, financial, or performance management data.
  • Conduct exit briefings following internal surveillance visits and explain identified deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Assist customers, supported organizations, and squadron elements by providing clarification on procedures, reports, and system requirements.
  • Plan, develop, or conduct on-the-job training to enhance proficiency and understanding of supply processes and systems.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.   • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:

  • The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
  • The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
  • The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
  • The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
  • The FIFTH area of consideration will be U.S. Citizens.


Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank requirement of SSgt & May not exceed the rank of MSgt.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. Demonstrated ability researching documents or other resources to coordinate inventory requirements. Knowledge of stock levels, inventory, shipping, receiving, requisitioning and requirements of supplies and equipment. Experience involving the control of supply stocks and accounting for equipment. Knowledge of supply management, cataloging, maintenance, and disposal procedures. Experience which required person-to-person contacts to convey information and ability to compile reports, letters, memoranda, etc. Demonstrated experience with cost estimates, budgets, or funding management. Experience conducting extensive and exhaustive searches for required information; reconstruct records for complex supply transactions; and/or provide supply operations support for supply activities. GS-07 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes experience, education or training involving administration of supply management, storage, cataloging, packaging and distribution or other work which provided the applicant with a general knowledge of one or more aspects of the supply field. Experience using computer and automation systems.

Education

If you are using Education to qualify for this position, successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or two full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university, meets the GS-9 qualification requirements. An LL.B. or J.D. may also satisfy the GS-9 requirements if the coursework is directly related to the position. Successful completion of one full year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university meets the GS-7 qualification requirements. A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) also meets the GS-7 qualification requirements.
