The primary purpose of this MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST, NH-0301-02, position is to provide support in managing various Depot Maintenance Activity Group (DMAG) administrative programs and to apply a practical knowledge of the nature and operations of an industrial organization, including materials, equipment, facilities, and methods of production.

Duties

Help

  • Monitor division Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) scheduling maintenance, repair, and replacement of machinery such as electric forklifts, electric generators, portable generators, power jacks, battery chargers, pallet jacks, etc.
  • Serve as facility manager for complex organizations.
  • Provide technical assistance during the development of financial management data in the areas of equipment, tools, and machinery, to determine technical and economic feasibility of using such in the facilities.
  • Comply with health, safety, and environmental rules, regulations, best practices, and accepted procedures in the performance of duties that enhances the safety of others in the work environment.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is primarily sedentary. May require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items such as paper or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring the use of normal safety precautions necessary for an office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or compensatory hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have 3 years of general experience, 1 year of which is equivalent to Federal experience at the next lower grade (GS-04), level, pay band (NH-01), or equivalent (pay schedule, pay band, etc). General experience is described as: analyzing, managing, and resolving complex issues with facilities and buildings within the organization, scheduling maintenance, repair, and replacement of machinery, and providing technical support for maintenance issues with production operations. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicant must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed qualifying education and experience to meet total experience requirements. General experience directly related to the work of the position and education in excess of a completed post high school education and experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position may be used to qualify applicants for the NH-2 level. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of directives governing programs and activities of industrial facilities operations, manufacturing processes, and acquisition, ordering procedures.
  2. Knowledge of industrial organization, management, business, and administrative practices.
  3. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.
  4. Ability to analyze organizational and operational facilities/material problems and to develop timely and economical solutions.
  5. Ability to review, analyze, and manage facility operations during contingency and mobility exercises.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional information

Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.

This is an acquisition demonstration project position NH-02 equivalent to a GS-05 to GS-11.
