Duties

Help

Performs clerical and administrative work in support of the Child Development Program.

Monitors and manages the reception desk.

Accepts applications and registrations for all programs provided through the Child Development Program, including full time care, par time care, hourly care, Give Parents a Break, PCS care, and Family Child Care Subsidy.

Uses multiple types of office automation equipment and software to create, format, edit, and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, emails, and other textual documents.

Computes, collects, records, and deposits fees and other service charges.

  • This position is a childcare/youth services position subject to background checks IAW DoD Directives and Public Law 101-647. Required to complete SF-85 background check.
  • Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid. Recruitment is limited to the local commuting area of United Kingdom only.
  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • Must be 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a physical examination and get or have immunizations required by the medical examiner.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's certificate.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • Must complete required training modules and training requirements to include CPR/First Aid certifications.
  • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Must successfully complete a Care National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI), State Criminal History Repository (SCHR), installation records check, and Defense Criminal Investigative Index checks.
  • Employees and family members requiring medical/dental care in the overseas location are responsible for obtaining/paying for care. Access for these members to military medical/dental treatment facilities is on space-available/reimbursable basis only.
  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.
  • Must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures i.e., distribute mail, answer telephone, maintain files/office forms and inventory/order supplies; knowledge of various word processing automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual documents such as letters, response memos, and form letters; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports; knowledge of various word processing automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual documents such as letters, response memos, and form letters.

OR
EDUCATION:
Four (4) years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of rules, procedures, or operations applied to secretarial and clerical assignments to perform the routine, procedural work of the office, such as preparing and editing documents, and maintaining files/records.

2. Knowledge of Child Development Programs policies and procedures to screen telephone calls and visitors and prepare and review correspondence.

3. Knowledge of various office automation software functions to support office operations and produce a variety of textual and spreadsheet documents.

4. Ability to locate, assemble, and compose routine, non-technical information for recurring reports and inquiries. Ability to learn funds handling techniques and procedures, time clocks, and other office equipment.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, gather, develop, and analyze a variety of data and to make recommendations based on analysis both orally and in writing.

6. Must possess maturity and sound judgment and be capable of handling emergency situations common in dealing with children and youth.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
