Duties

Help

Sets up rooms for meetings, conferences, and banquets on a regular basis. Moves furniture, materials, and supplies using appropriate equipment. Cleans and restocks public restrooms. Cleans offices, including kitchenettes, fireplaces, and private restrooms. Removes trash from public and private areas of the Senate side of the Capitol; transports trash to collection site. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience setting up events, moving furniture, and/or office cleaning; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.
  • Ability to operate a variety of moving and cleaning equipment; including the ability to learn to operate an electric pallet jack.

Working Conditions

  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
  • Work requires frequent physical effort walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations.
  • Heavy (carrying of items more than 50 pounds). 
  • Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (cleaning chemicals) and biohazard materials (blood, pathogens)/OPIM (other potentially infectious material).
  • Work requires employee to wearing uniforms (or gloves or other protective equipment besides a respirator).

Education

High school diploma (or GED).
