Duties

Help
  • Drives various types of automobiles from sedans to passenger vans and trucks weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, supplies, and materials throughout the installation, public roads, and city streets in all types of traffic conditions.
  • Assists with loading and unloading cargo and materials and ensures vehicle is not loaded beyond the rated capacity by checking cargo papers and by visual observation.
  • Performs driver's maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.
  • Completes trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records.
  • Fills out driver's accident report in case of accident

  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally controlled facilities.
  • The appropriate driver’s license must be valid and current.
  • Drives outside in all kinds of weather in all types of traffic at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
  • Exposed to dirt and fumes, and the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
  • Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
  • Moderate physical effort is required in making couplings, handling objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally heavier objects with the assistance of others or weight handling equipment.

Qualifications

Knowledge of height, weight, width, and length of vehicle in order to judge overhead and side clearances, turning radius and braking distance.
Knowledge of safety rules and traffic regulations.
Knowledge on how to properly load, unload, and tow cargo. Skill in determining the shortest and safest route.
Ability to recognize hazardous conditions.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week-- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
