This position is for an IT Specialist (Network Services), Position Description Number D1822000 located in the 224th JCSS at Brunswick, GA.

This is a full-time, Temporary Indefinite, dual status position not to exceed 4 years which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership.

As an IT Specialist (Network Services), GS-2210-11, you will:

Design and engineer IT networks carried over various transmission systems such as multi-channel satellite, troposphere scatter systems, Line-Of-Sight (LOS) RF radios, LOS laser radios, and cable systems. Engineers and designs router-to-router connections utilizing military and commercial protocols, switch-to-switch trunking, circuit configurations through military and commercial multiplexers, and asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). Develops plans for employment of communications systems to support operations in support of training and the deployed warfighter.

Plan and design Wide Area Networks (WANs) consisting of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Military Specification (MILSPEC) components to operate IAW accepted Information Technology (IT) security policies using network planning tools. Determines operational, technical and support requirements for the location, installation, operation and maintenance of network equipment and systems. Coordinates and conducts operational tests and evaluations of designed networks to optimize capabilities. Reviews and analyzes data, makes technical judgments, and prepares decisions and recommendations concerning the quality, acceptability, and/or need for changes/improvements.

Utilize a broad knowledge of IT concepts, principles, methods and practices to identify, coordinate, and implement actions required to provide network services that support a requesting agency's requirements. Identifies potential network and transmission deficiencies in planned or current operational networks.

Manage frequency assignment and control of operating frequencies. Provides technical guidance and direction for different aspects of radio frequency spectrum analysis to the warfighter. Determines the compatibility of frequency assignments for fixed station and/or mobile radio, radar, satellite links, and other systems used by the military. Coordinates frequency assignments with DOD, MAJCOM, ANG, base, and unit spectrum managers. Conducts transmission path analysis (path profiling) with various computerized programs. Coordinates with external agencies for satellite and gateway access for IT systems in support of warfighter and training requirements.

Determine requirements and requests resources from different agencies to support contingency and/or training networks. Coordinates with supported agencies on IT network requirements. Contacts Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Major Commands (MAJCOMs), or other agencies to coordinate operations between aligned units and the Global Information Infrastructure.

Represent the organization in conferences or with committees to establish standard methods and operating procedures to accommodate mission requirements. Prepares recommendations concerning the quality, acceptability, and/or need for changes/improvements.

Plan, develop and administer operations plans and applicable annexes by developing short and long range procedures to meet mission requirements. Ensures procedures are identified for status reporting for operations. Interprets and applies joint standards when designing IT networks and/or systems to meet mission objectives.

Develop, implement and maintain work center training programs. Plans and schedules tasks and training activities for drill status guard members. Oversees and conducts on-the-job training (OJT) for personnel. Creates and develops lesson plans. Ensures availability of facilities and training aids. Monitors the training status of personnel and ensures that supplemental and/or remedial training is accomplished. Responsible for documentation of accomplished training in a timely manner. Utilizes automated training documentation system.

Responsible for mobilization readiness of section personnel and equipment.

Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

Qualifications

Military Grades: A1C - MSgt.

General Experience: Must possess experience which has provided the applicant with a knowledge of equipment maintenance work, or skill in reading engineering drawings and specifications, using test instruments, making computations, and keeping records. Experience using computer and automation systems.

Specialized Experience: Candidate must have 36 months specialized experience which demonstrates the knowledge of, and skill in applying, a comprehensive range of principles, concepts, and practices concerning equipment, facility, or service operations with complicated technical requirements that have no clear precedent or plan. Experience overseeing and implementing a program involving the identification and resolution of difficult issues or problems. Experience preparing budgets based on plans for maintenance, repair work, new construction alteration projects, replacement of existing equipment, or increase in services and processes to ensure program effectiveness. Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
