Help

Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 86th Force Support Squadron Youth Programs,ensuring that programming for youth and teens complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.

Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

Represents Youth Program with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

Assists in the determination of the level of funding needed and justifies innovative fundraising activities to complement annual appropriated and non-appropriated budgets. Effectively briefs and presents budget requirements. Ensures sufficient equipment and supplies

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

  • IAW AFI 34-144 and DoD certification requirements, a pre-employment physical examination with a renewal at least every 3 years and specified immunizations are required.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain Food Handler’s, First Aid, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications and complete additional training requirements.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial (Cont'd)

Qualifications

  • The incumbent must complete applicable Virtual Lab School (VLS) courses and all applicable training requirements.
  • PCS will not be paid.
  • Incumbent may occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours to include weekends, holidays and evenings. Incumbent may be required to work a split shift to meet supervisory or program requirements.
  • Work involves physical exertion such as standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. (small children or center supplies), and some involvement in all aspects of the center and playground area arrangement and maintenance.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist Series 0188.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of principles, concepts, developmentally appropriate practices, and techniques of programming for Youth, teens, and youth sports; ensuring that programming for youth and teens complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs and provide services and activities that directly impact the base and local community young participants physical and mental well-being, and social development.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL. B or J.D., if related. Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of principles, concepts, developmentally appropriate practices, and techniques of programming for Youth, teens, and youth sports.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of program and facility management, environmental regulations, practices, and procedures; facility design; and equipment selection and purchases.
4. Skill in preparing budgets, program evaluations, and facility administration; managing financial and physical resources and in effectively organizing and utilizing available resources within programs framework
5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a medium to large sized organization.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
