Duties

Help

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5801-10, you will:

  • Assign work orders to specific crew members and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and direct other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles.
  • Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems.
  • Ensure that there is enough work to keep the work crew busy.
  • Provide information to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work as a surface maintenance mechanic. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed as a surface maintenance mechanic.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

24 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, provide guidance, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of mobile equipment maintenance; and must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
