The area of consideration for this position is CAT 2 (Area 1) and includes North Carolina T32/T5 CURRENT ON-BOARD. Applications will only be accepted from current Permanent and Excepted Indefinite (Title 5 Employees and Title 32) Technicians assigned to the 145 Airlift Wing, North Carolina National Guard.

Duties

As a FIRE CHIEF, GS-0081-12, you will plan, organize, and oversee the activities of the Fire Protection Flight; exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities; represent the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of organizations and functional area organizations; assume incident command at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed; determine need, budgets for, and recommends acquisition of additional and/or different fire protection, firefighting, and specialized rescue equipment, contract services, formal training, etc.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trail period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • If required, submit to urinalysis testing due to designation of position by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position.
  • Must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Fire Officer IV, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, and Airport Firefighter, Firefighter I, II.
  • May work a minimum 56 or 60-hour week with supervisor’s approval.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level.

The incumbent of this position must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Fire Officer IV (includes Fire Officer I,II,III), Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations), and Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II).
