Duties

Help
  • Performs a variety of laboring, warehousing, and service issue tasks at any and all of the established warehousing and customer service locations within the US Military Academy.
  • Operate a variety of heavy industrial-powered equipment such as snow blowers, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, or leaf blowers to complete grounds maintenance
  • Performs general cleaning of warehouse areas or service issue points.
  • Utilizes rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and similar tools and equipment in completing other laboring tasks.
  • Load and/or unload materials and/or supplies from trucks, forklifts, and/or other conveyances.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical.
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry and handle items weighing up to 50 pounds, and must be able to regularly lift, carry and handle items weighing over 80 pounds.
  • Appointment to this position may be subject to a Tier 1 background investigation to determine the incumbent's suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) LABORER~ without more than normal supervision. To include performing common Laborer tasks including performing grounds keeping tasks; and/or performing warehouse-type tasks which include loading and/or unloading trucks; moving, packing, unpacking, and/or sorting a variety of supply items or equipment; or performing general cleaning of warehouse areas, rooms, and/or loading docks, working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and regularly is required to lift, carry, and handle items weighing over 80 pounds. When working as a member of a team, often lifts the heaviest objects with the assistance of another worker or workers.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling and other equipment. Required to utilize and wear appropriate safety gear.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
