About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to perform pharmacy technician duties and assist the pharmacist in the processing and dispensing of prescriptions. Providing technical support to Naval Branch Health Clinic Yorktown Pharmacy and Tricare Prime Clinic Suffolk Pharmacy to Naval Branch Health Clinic Yorktown Pharmacy and Tricare Prime Clinic Suffolk Pharmacy.

Duties

Help
  • Manages the procurement of lifecycle for pharmaceuticals and healthcare consumables.
  • Responsible for the management of expired, obsolete, and excess inventory.
  • Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization
  • Check on work in progress or spot check work not requiring review.
  • Responsible for outpatient dispensing within the clinic.
  • Maintains patient records utilizing automated systems and software.
  • Performs pharmacy compounding functions.
  • Assists the pharmacists in efficient drug utilization review, quality assurance, and process improvement efforts.
  • Leads 3 GS Pharmacy Technicians.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Duties require incumbent to perform shift work, i.e. day, evening, and nights to include weekends and holidays, but generally it is a Monday through Friday day-time position only.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions; and distributing pharmaceuticals; and maintaining accurate inventory of all controlled substances; and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:


Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
