Summary

This position is located within the VA Pacific Island Health Care System; assigned to the Veterans Transportation Service within the Veterans Transportation Program. The incumbent works with the VTS Supervisory Mobility Manager for transportation workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement implementation, modification of processes, evaluation and ongoing operational flow of the Veteran Transportation Services program.

Help

As a GS-6 Transportation Assistant, duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the scheduling and dispatching drivers and vehicles for patient transportation
  • Schedule and dispatch vehicles for other official business purposes
  • Schedule vehicle to vendors' shops for installation of special equipment, repairs, routine maintenance, etc.
  • Maintain/update electronic records used for the purpose of reporting metrics
  • Track and file a significant volume of vehicle trips tickets on a daily basis
  • Provide support to the clinical services in all administrative operations associated with the processing of Veteran Transportation request and patients scheduled for transportation, treatment, and clinic visits

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/28/2025.

In addition to the Typing Proficiency, you must meet the Specialized Experience as described:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped me with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-05 grade level or higher, or an equivalent level of responsibility. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes: Performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; Performs a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Demands: The duties and responsibilities of the position require some mobility between various clinic areas in separate building location sites, but generally the job is sedentary with some standing, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds. The employee is required to work with computer equipment at least 95% of the time which impacts on hand and wrist motions.

Work Environment: The work is performed in a business office and an outpatient treatment setting. The environment involves those everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of this environment. Although the employee works in a health care facility where exposure to contagious diseases exist, the tasks required for this position does not put the employee at a serious risk for this type exposure, the work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. The incumbent must remain composed at all times in trying to assist veterans, their families and staff, who may be upset or in distress and hostile in manner. The incumbent may work with patients who are mentally disturbed and must be alert to the risk of physical abuse. Due to changing deadlines and priorities, work may be stressful at times.
