Help
  • You will perform duties related to delivering quantitative chemical analysis of submitted materials to identify and quantify compounds present to include energetics and a variety of other potentially hazardous organic and inorganic compounds.
  • You will differentiate bulk and trace explosive signatures from contamination and background and evaluate samples to determine appropriate sample preparation techniques.
  • You will provide training on and support subject matter exchanges (CONUS and OCONUS) to technical and non-technical personnel on chemical and physical analyses of energetics (and related compounds).
  • You will produce detailed notes and generate reports based upon data collected through sample analysis.
  • You will develop and maintain relationships with DoD, intelligence community, and other governmental and civilian agencies working in the field of technical exploitation.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current explosive handler certification.
  • Work may require flight in military aircraft and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to basic education requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional Scientist, applying scientific theories, concepts, and practices to analyze and evaluate laboratory research data, results, and techniques related to explosive chemistry.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess

FOR 1320: Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

This flyer announcement uses the STRL Direct Support direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

You will serve as a SCIENTIST (CHEMIST) in the Expeditionary Exploitation Unit One (EXU-1), Civilian Personnel ORG (XN3), Analytic Chemistry Division (XN3C) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-04 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-12 and GS-13.

Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
