Duties

Help
  • Provides individual and group therapy, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy.
  • Assesses acute mental health conditions in beneficiaries who present with such issues.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of patient care in accordance with current unit and hospital SOPs; current DoD, Army, Federal and state regulations; and professional ethics.
  • Maintains performance and conduct in accordance with current unit and hospital SOPs; current DoD, DA, Federal and state regulations; and professional ethics.
  • Assesses and provides crisis intervention for individuals and families undergoing unusual medically related stresses.
  • Provides psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals and paraprofessionals through established consultation channels.
  • Screens and interviews patients, and performs bio-psychological social evaluations, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling
  • Conducts therapy, monitors, approves, and documents all treatment planning, and provides advice for case staffing, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling;
  • Evaluates clinical records and monitors all test administration and scoring for quality assurance. Evaluates environment of care. Monitors all risk management issues and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides consultation regarding testing and interpreting issues. Evaluates test results for release. Evaluates diagnostic summaries.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position requires a drug test.
  • Unrestricted license as a doctoral level Psychologist. Must have a valid state license.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:

Degree:
Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes experience with making mental health diagnosis in accordance with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM-IV-TR) criteria; experience with conducting performance initiatives in accordance with medical credentialing accreditations; experience with therapy techniques relative to treatment plans and processes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

License: The Clinical Psychologist position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your license with your application package.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
