This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain competitive service positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: This position is located at the Maintenance Shop in Pasco, WA. This position is under the Ice Harbor Dam, Natural Resource Management section, which operates and maintains recreation facilities, habitat management units and flood control infrastructure.

Help
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the general operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities, project grounds, parks, wildlife areas and other public use facilities.
  • Performs or assists in the removal, repair and replacement of various pumps, motors, and gauges.
  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment for which licensed and qualified.
  • Installs, modifies, and repairs new and old water supply systems, waterborne toilets, sewage systems, drinking fountains, hydrants, etc.
  • Construct wooden forms for concrete; measures, cuts and constructs general carpentry repairs to steps, doors, windows, ramps, picnic tables, and walls.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Water Pump Repairer without more than normal supervision. Perform common tasks of a Water Pump Repairer including repairing and maintaining automated underground irrigation systems to include various types of pumps; operating a variety of gas- and diesel-powered heavy equipment; performing general carpentry projects and repairs; AND operate and maintain hand and power tools. My resume reflects current or past experience performing these tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The water pump repairer works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling and climbing. May work on ladder, scaffolds or platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to reach places. They frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and outside where there is exposure to water, dust, dirt, grease, heat, noise and unpleasant odors. Work areas may be in remote areas requiring extensive driving in all types of road and weather conditions. Repairer is continually exposed to the potential for burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises and infections. They follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, and fire retardant gloves.
