Duties

Help

  • Plans, develops, organizes, and administers diverse, multi-faceted and comprehensive physical fitness and sports programs.
  • Acts as Chapter Director of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and/or certified clinician for staff and volunteer training as mandated by Air Force directives.
  • Administers sports, fitness, and instructional resource programs.
  • In conjunction with the Youth Sports Program Director, procures, stores, disperses, repairs, replaces, and controls all youth sport and athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for the operations and maintenance of a variety of sport and fitness fields and facilities.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Subject to appropriate vaccines against communicable disease in accordance with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) adult immunization schedule recommendations.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The employee must meet and maintain training requirements as outlined in applicable DoD and AF regulations.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and (Cont'd)
  • Cont'd) periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • Employees and family members requiring medical/dental care in the overseas location are responsible for obtaining/paying for care. Access for these members to military medical/dental treatment facilities is on space-available/reimbursable basis only.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Programs, Recreation Specialist Series 0188.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level or equivalent executing of the principles, concepts, and factors in planning, organizing, and administering youth sports and fitness programs to plan, develop, and carry out a youth sports and fitness program that meets the needs of a large participating community without detriment to health, safety, and protection of public buildings and outdoor natural resources,

OR

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education in an accredited college or university [Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.] OR I am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirement is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcript with your application.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of youth development theory, methodology, policy, practices, and procedures relating to physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development.
  • Knowledge of budget, financial, and resource management practices and procedures in relation to meeting program objectives and goals.
  • Knowledge of requirements involved in the qualifications and suitability of adults to work with youth.
  • Skill in the effective management of financial, physical, and human resources of youth center programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to implement policies, practices, and procedures in program and safety management.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
