Duties

Help

Typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Serves as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for mechanical systems engineering, repair, design, review, and related Building System Commissioning.
  • Responsible for planning and utilization initiatives for various building mechanical system renovations and operations.
  • Serves as a Professional Mechanical Engineer for the Division, on specific issues and as directed, to provide staff level contact with various tenants, the Pentagon Renovation Office, the Army Corps of Engineers, various outside agencies, State and local governments and the A&E Firms.
  • Manages the successful accomplishment of in-house and contractor operation, preventive maintenance, repair, replacement and alteration of mechanical systems, and emergency utility support to DoD mission-critical functions and equipment, as well as the operation and support to various Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) protection systems.
  • Resolves problems, conflicts and issues that arise from coordination of work with Functional and Geographic IPT members and leaders and other entities involved in the Pentagon Renovation, as well as for the operation of the entire Pentagon Reservation.
  • Manages, directs and administers contracts for Building Commissioning and various multi-year preventive maintenance and repair ID/IQ contracts.

  • Mission Essential positions are also required to maintain contact with their supervisor during any dismissal or closure situation unless specifically excused by their supervisor.
  • This position requires you to wear protective equipment, i.e., arc flash rated suit, tyvek suits and respirators, while working in hazardous areas.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-13) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in: Overseeing the planning and utilization initiatives for various building mechanical system renovations and operations; Developing and implementing new and innovative engineering methods for the design of mechanical utility systems; Collaborating and making recommendations regarding programs and projects related to mechanical engineering (i.e. planning, design, budgeting, acquisition, contracting, scheduling, construction, repairs, and building commissioning); Managing contracts for Building Commissioning and various multi-year preventive maintenance and repair contracts (i.e. mechanical, electronic, telecommunications support systems; heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; plumbing system; and other support/ service systems).

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission..
