This position is with the Defense Commissary Agency, Central Distribution Center, Receiving & Storage Section located in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

The position works in the capacity as a working leader, responsible for leading variety of work involved in the receiving, warehousing and shipping of perishable and semi-perishable goods to commissaries and other supported activities throughout Defense Commissary Agency operations.

Duties

Help
  • Perform a wide range of technical duties supporting the receiving, storing, selecting and shipping of stocked merchandise.
  • Pass on to other employees’ instructions received from supervisor and starts work assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
  • Check work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
  • Retrieve data of incoming product from automated system and utilize said data to ensure accuracy of incoming container information.
  • Using extensive knowledge of warehouse methods and practices prioritizes off-loading sequences and identify optimal product storage locations.
  • Conduct full or partial inventories as required and analyze reports or findings to identify discrepancies.
  • Determine number, sequence and required space allocation for transshipments, and coordinates requirements with transportation office.
  • Identify and resolve any safety hazards and ensures that lower graded workers are maintain and safe and secure work practices.

  • Incumbent works inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty or poorly lit. Is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls and injury from falling stock or mechanized conveyor systems.
  • Incumbent is required to routinely work in extreme temperatures, often stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.
  • May be exposed to extremes of temperature, suitable protective clothing will be provided and must be worn.
  • Employee may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 lbs. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
  • Incumbent must be physically able to wear steel-toed safety boots and other personnel protective equipment provided.
  • Incumbent is required to perform an uncommon tour of duty to include shift work, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for the appropriate security clearance.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) Leader without more than normal supervision. Tasks include analyzing data and compile statistical reports concerning the quantity, quality and availability of stock; assigning work performed by individual members of the group led, and checking for compliance with supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Additional information

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. Selectees will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire in accordance with Department of State Standardized Regulation (DSSR) and DoDI 1400.25 volume 1250.
  • For positions in a foreign country, that country's laws or international agreements may have a direct impact on the ability of an employee's same sex domestic partner or spouse to accompany the employee and receive certain benefits.
