Duties

Help

Performs work in two or more trade practices associated with occupations such as plumbing, carpentry, and painting.

Plumbing
Makes plumbing repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, resealing, replacing defective parts or units of utility, supply, and disposal systems, such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile, damaged or broken pipes, leaky faucets, and stopped up drains. Installs water heaters, garbage disposal units, faucets, and sinks.

Carpentry
Measures, cuts, and constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolds, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, sheathing, and roof decking.

Painting
Performs standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying, by the use of coating materials that are prepared according to specific directions, and by the application of coating techniques that ensure surfaces are fuI1y coated, protected, and free from drips and runs.

Additional Responsibilities
Assists staff members by asking questions to determine, verify, and solve problems; resolves problems quickly; and alerts supervisor or proper point of contact for assistance when issues arrive.

Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.

Observes required safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and regulations.

Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Drives motor vehicles to transport tools and materials to and from work site using Government owned vehicles.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
  • Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate possesses the following:

  • Knowledge in the applicable combination of trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, and/or painting) sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, use of hazardous materials and chemicals, fall protection standards, and all related OSHA safety standards.
  • Skill in basic math and reading.
  • Ability to provide customer service with a high level of professionalism.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Education

**Must provide a copy of your H.S. Diploma, GED, or College Transcripts (showing degree awarded/conferred) when you apply.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
