Upon request, the incumbent will assist patrons only to the extent of absolute knowledge with instructions or advice on repairing automotive vehicles. The incumbent will insure that he/she does not convey any misleading, incorrect or unsafe information or practice. May supervise patrons using all tools and machines ensuring safety precautions are used. All patron service will be responsive, polite and delivered in a manner.
Check tools in and out using a custody receipt to ensure their return. Advises customer on safety instructions concerning tools and equipment in the shop and ensures protective equipment is used as required. Operates shop machinery as required, which may include valve grinding, wheel-balancing, timing lights and spark plug cleaning machines. Instructs customer in proper use of machinery as needed and oversees to ensure safe and appropriate use. Assists with the preventative maintenance, repair and record-keeping of all Mid-Atlantic owned vehicles.
Collects and records all fees and sales. Operates cash register, and performs all necessary cash recording in accordance with established regional policy. Displays stock and refills displays as necessary. Assists with shop inventory as requested.
Maintains facility in clean and orderly fashion to ensure high level of cleanliness at all times. Cleans and stocks restrooms. Upon closing, ensures the facility has been cleaned according to directives, checks internal and external lighting and holds fire and security checks to ensure facility is secured.
Performs any other related duties as assigned.

A qualified candidate possess the following:
Knowledge of automotive tools and equipment and their proper, safe use and maintenance.
Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to read technical manuals for tools and equipment and learn shop equipment within 90 days of hire.
Must possess leadership skills to exercise control over groups of people; ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazardous situations.
Must act immediately in any situation which could result in harm to a patron; the ability to tactfully but forcefully provide instruction on safety and facility rules and regulations, and enforce them.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
